Happy Valentine's Day

I totally did not make Valentine's Day cards this year. I suppose it was a little on purpose as in the past years, holiday cards don't really sell. Not sure why, but I decided to hold back this year and I'll probably regret it, but we'll see.

On another note. I want to share with you all my sisters crafty talent of making the most delicious sugar cookies I have ever had tasted. YUM. She made these little delights for my daughters teachers and for some friends. They were a big hit!

It was VERY hard for me to not take control over my daughters (3.5year old) Valentine's Day box as it was one the most memorable times I remember doing with my mom. I really enjoyed doing crafts with my mom and now I get to do them with my daughter. It's great and I've learned to let her just create on her own. She loves crafting!

I was able to reproduce this card several times.

I just changed up the color and ribbon a little each time.

This card was an inspiration, It is very close to the original, but I changed a few things. I'm not sure I really made it "My" own, but I like it non-the-less!

This Card is pretty much the same as the inspiration that I found online. I think that I added the sting, but other then that, it is the same. I apologize for not remembering who made this lovely card, but I can't take credit for it! As you see, some of the cards on this site have been closely made like others that I have seen, but I've put some kinda Doodle Expressions twist on it to make it my own. Others I just wanted to duplicate because it was so pretty and to change anything about it, just made it look less.

This was SUPER easy to pull together. Sometimes the simple cards turn out to be the prettiest.

Very Simple layout, however, after I posted this picture I realized that I needed to fix that bow and then I forgot to re-take the photo so I'm stuck with this one. (Sorry)

How precious are these little nuggets! I used to make feet prints like these when I was a kid. If I were painting or stamping or what I could dip my palms into I would make a little foot print. Lady Bug Themed Birthday...

Cookies and Banner and little cupcake sticks were all made handmade by Sharon. Cupcakes were ordered in to make my (Rachael) life a lot easier. I added assorted treats and sweets and let me tell you, it was a parents nightmare, but a kids DREAM! It was so great to see the faces on the little ones light up with the " Oooooooooooh My Gosh" look on their face. I think the parents had about the same reaction, but maybe in a less fantasising way..ha ha Sorry parents. It's just once a year I swear!

We played a fun pin the spots on the lady bug game. We had a few winners but gave prizes to everyone. We also played Egg relays which in that game there was a tie and EVERYBODY won! :)

The party was great despite the rain. Doodler girl was the happiest birthday girl in town!

I made these fun little invites for my daughters birthday. I was able to create a one page design for the main background on my handy dandy print shop software to save me time and money and then with my cricut I made shapes to make the lady bug embellishment. I used a black gel pen to make the dotted lines behind the lady bug and two small, black stick on circles for the antennas. I was perplexed as to what I should use for the lady bugs spots and I discovered that 3D paint works wonderfully not only on fabric, but paper too! I then finished it off with one red ribbon and tied in the "Stay put bow" style. Sharon (my mom) is working on a very lovely lady bug banner which I will include in this post when I get it in the mail. I can't wait to see it live. It looked super cute over Skype. Sharon is also going to be making little lady bug sugar cookies and cupcake embellishments. I will add all her birthday photos so you can see what we can do for you and your child on their next birthday!

Summer Birthday Party Theme

I got into making some invites and treat baskets to go along with the party. This special little girl had a pool party and wanted something fun and summer like. When she saw the total package, she was so happy and thankful! Made my day to see her so happy.

These treat bags will come empty so that you can fill them with what ever you would like. This one happens to be filled with cute little note pads, pencil and an "treat" styled eraser (example: ice cream treat)

Please don't even ask me how I made this card. It's a real mess, but in pictures it looks cute. I have to master this card down and then I will mark the appropriate pricing. It took a long time to make, but once I have the pattern down, I should be able to make the card in just under an hour. "An Hour" you say, YES, most of the cards I make take me at least 45 minutes to complete, unless I am making a card with few layers and embellishments. I tell ya, card making is hard business.

Baby Shower Cupcake Tower Craft

This project was so much fun and the best part of it all, is that I got to work on with my mom Sharon. Sharon and I first found an inspiration and then give the final product a twist of Doodle Expressions. It turned out super cute and made the mom to be pretty happy! There was a lot that went into this tower. It was our first attempt to a cupcake tower so it was a little time consuming and very experimental but so worth all the obstacles we overcome! Let us know if you're interested in getting one made up for you.

Initially, we wanted to drape the words Welcome and Baby's name on the 2nd and 3rd tower. However, it would properly fit around the construction of the tower so we ended up using the letters as part of our gift wrap for the gift we gave the Mommy. It ended up working out perfect!

This is our Cuddle Bug machine. You can see the cute little scalloped squares we cut out for each letter. In the above photo you can see the almost end result of the letters that we created. We also added a smaller letter to go inside the larger letter giving it a more 3D appearance. It was very effective.
We made our own cupcake tins with our Cricut. We purchase our cartridge at Walmart, but you can buy them at most craft stores as well. They run about $39.99.
We then put together little lolly pop stands using some bug embellishments that we found at again Walmart. We could have made them ourselves, but we were running out of time and they were the perfect finish to our lolly pops. This is our end result. We were very happy to see it turn out so great! WOW... I (Rachael) thought I would never see the day where I'd considered doing wedding invites, but here we go. I think it might just work (orders 150 and under). Keep in mind that the invites are totally made from all the

same material that I use for cards. No special printing, just handmade creativity. You can click on the photo to get a bigger look! I've never made Wedding invites before, so if you see something I missed or is out of place, I am truly sorry! I will tweak and nip and tuck and get it just right!

I made this fun card with a spiderweb embossing folder by Cuddlebug. and Spider stamp was applied with a pigment stamp specially for embossing power (you'll need an embossing gun) I can do a future tutorial on that. I used Clear embossing powder.

Now is the time to make your Christmas Card orders. They make WONDERFUL gifts as people are always needing cards. It's so convenient to have cards available on late notice and if you're anything like me (Rachael), you wait until the last minute or you're so busy that you forget to buy one in advance. Having a pack on hand should prevent these mishaps from happening and allow you to think about other things and not have you worrying about making a run the the store for just "one thing" that turns into 20 things and a $100 bills later. So, in all actuality, this will save you money! (I like positive thinking don't you?)

New Cards!

I had inspiration for this top card, but I got really carried away with making it my own. The original was beautiful, but I really liked adding just a little bit more to it.

This also was some inspiration. You may have seen cards like this already. I have just added a few little touches of my own and made it look a bit more busy then most I've seen.

I may have made just one or two changes to this one. I really liked the original the way it was and wanted to see if I could make it too. I used a different embossing folder (Cuttlebug Embossing Folder).

This was a Rachael original. I did have inspiration, but completely took it in a different direction and I think it turned out pretty good.

This is very similar to the inspiration card that I found. I found different ribbon that I liked a little more then the original.

This is my own creation and so much fun putting the little touches on this one. It's a nice Male birthday card. I need to make more male cards and have actually gotten requests to make some more custom cards such as off the wall things like "Happy Divorce", "Congratulations loosing #lbs) and so on. I suppose I'll make a card pack of 6 and put them up for sale!!

I got a card order to make some Happy Birthday from All kind of cards. That was fun. I found some really great pictures I could use from one of my art software cd's.

Long Awaited Tutorial for the 8 Greeting Card-Pack Gift Box

You will need:

*Score Pal

*Score tape - I use Sookwang and you can get this product at Archiver's.

*Cutting Board

*Scissors

*Tape runner

*Embellishments

*Adhesive-backed Velcro

The First step is to make the proper measurements. I can't began to tell you how many times I had to redo this because I didn't write down the measurements.

Your paper needs to be cut to 12" x 10.5".

Place you paper 12" across and 10" down and with your Scor-Pal, you will score lines in at the 3" line and the 4" line and again at the 8.5" and 9" lines.

Turn your paper so that the 10.5" side is sitting across and the 12" is down. Score lines at 1" and 2" lines and again at the 8.5" and 9" lines.

Your paper should look like this!

Now, with your scissors cut through both lines as shown on the side that measures 3". Do that on both ends.

On the end that measures 2.5", you will only cut through one line. Cut each side so that it looks like the picture below.

Now that you have successfully cut everything to measure, you may start placing the score tape (Sookwang) in the places shown below. Put a piece of score tape on the tab that shows nothing as well so that it looks like the other side shown.

Before You stick the box together, you'll want to first decorate your box with a nice card stock. Any design of your desire. In this demonstration, I failed to stick on my paper before the box was permanently stuck shut. It wasn't hard to paste while in box form, but it is A LOT easier to do with it laying flat!
Next, fold over the sides of the box so that the sticky part of the tab matches up with each side looking like the photo below.

We're almost done!

Now that we have the gift box design, we can start to add embellishments.

I have found some great flower embellishments at Michaels and Archiver's. To see the brands better, you can click on the photo and when you are done looking, just click the back button to return to Doodle Expressions.

I Heart Glue Dots! I use all different sizes. They work great for buttons, flowers, pasting ribbon down... ANYTHING!

Center and stick!

Here we have VELCRO! LOVE this item too! You can get this item at most sewing stores. I happend to find mine at Walmart in the sewing department.

Take your velcro circle or square and stick one end to the middle of the lid on your box and then stick the opposite textured end to it so that they match up when you connect the lid to the main part of the box. Works every time!

And now you have your final product!

Hey everyone! My name is Debra and I run a little blog called She Is My Sister. This is my first time guest blogging, and I don't really know how to start! First and foremost I would like to thank Sharon and Rachael for having me over; I am really excited to be here, so I guess I will just jump right in!

Today I am going to show you a couple of different ways to use old, clip-on style earrings. My sister gave me a few pairs that she had found a while back and right away I thought that they would make great photo clips.

First, I put a little dot of hot glue on the inside of the "clip" part of the earrings as so:

Can you see them? It was hard to get a good picture of a tiny dot of glue.
I did this for two reasons: first, to protect my pictures from the scratchy metal, and second, the glue helps to keep the pictures from slipping out of the earring. Sweet, huh?
Anyway..... the glue needs to dry completely, so leave the earrings open and set them aside.

Next, I found some pretty paper. This paper is from an Amy Butler scrapbook pad that I bought at Michaels'. Lay the backing of your frame onto your paper and trace around it, then cut your paper. Check to see if it fits in your frame, and make any adjustments needed.

Now, with a ruler, make a mark on the center of your paper where you will be gluing your earring:

Put a little blob of hot glue there:

Then, stick your (still open) earring to the blob of glue and let it dry:

Once the glue is dry, you can put your paper in the frame, replace the backing, and display a favorite photo.....

Or a sweet little note from a sweet little boy...

Awwww. :)

Now I am going to quickly show you how to make them into push pins.
Start by putting little dots of hot glue on the inside of the clip part, just like in option one.
I tried to glue the earring to a thumb tack to no avail. I use several different types of glue, but the tack just kept popping off of the earring. So, I improvised. I had some of these thingies in my "tool" box. I don't know what they are, but I do know that I found them in the jewelry department at...wait for it....Michaels'. Shocking, I know.

If you don't have any of these things you could use jewelry wire or bend a paper clip into shape.

Next, slip your little rod through the clip part of your earring:

And twist it to secure it into place:

Then, take you wire cutter and clip off the extra piece that is sticking out .

Now, take a regular old sewing pin and clip it down to size, too.

Put them up on your bulletin board and clip in whatever you like!

I love vintage earrings and this is such a great way to have them out where I can enjoy them every day!
